Tuesday, January 29, 2008Skiing Magazine spot illustration![]() This was the last Marmot spot for the '08 season. Out now in February issues. More again in July.. Labels: pencil, skiing magazine, watercolor Sunday, January 27, 2008Illustration Friday - "Tales & Legends"![]() I did this drawing in my sketchbook many months ago, and realized that it fit the Illustration Friday topic. I forget where I saw the image, but I think it was a shot of the actor playing D'Artagnan in The Three Musketeers.. the original movie, perhaps? I'm not really a fan of either, I just thought it was an interesting image to draw. Labels: illustration friday, pencil, sketchbook Zodiac Signs![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I was commissioned by Bell'Invito to illustrate all 12 Zodiac signs for a calendar, which will be letter-pressed. The creative director gave me the freedom to make them a bit quirkier than the traditional take on the Zodiac signs, so it's been fun coming up with the different concepts. Some are a bit more obvious than others.. I'll likely finish up the last 4 over the next couple weeks, and will post them up when I do. Friday, January 25, 2008Sketchbook drawings![]() ![]() These are a couple of drawings I made today. One is a Cambodian man, the other an old Vietnamese lady. I don't know, I guess I'm just in a South-East Asian kind of mood. Mmmm.. I think I'll suggest Thai for dinner tonight.. Labels: ink, sketchbook Thursday, January 24, 2008"The Ridiculous Race" interior spots![]() I'm currently working on some interior illustrations for The Ridiculous Race, a book that's being published by Henry Holt. I did the cover for it a few months ago (above), and will soon be doing the back cover and spine as well.. It was cool to be given free reign to design and hand-draw all the type for the cover. I also just finished illustrating a world map for the book that is pretty type-heavy. Could it be because my last posting was from March of 2007?? Yes, yes that could be an indication...
So I am now officially a "blogger", which is somewhat surprising to me. It just seems to be the easiest, most efficient way for me to keep people updated - whoever cares, that is.. While I don't plan on including much political ranting or scathing social commentary (aside from what may show up in my illustrations), I do plan on keeping people much more up to date with what I'm working on. Plus it seems sort of cool that people can comment on postings & images. So please feel free to comment, whether it's good or bad, and I'll try to comment back in a timely manner.. if needed. If you want to see any of my old News postings, or just to laugh at how inefficient it was, you can click here: old news (keep in mind it used to pop up in it's own, small window.. so it looked a little better than this) - Tim |
